YouTube link for mobile viewing

If you've ever looked at some of our past coverage of trade shows, you no doubt noticed that when Google is in attendance -- they like to do things big. They bring lots of phones to put on display, have plenty of Android gear around and its always a very hands-on experience,

Telstra in Australia has now taken some of that tradeshow feeling and turned into a retail experience with the launch of the worlds first Android store in Melbourne. After having worked with Google and various other partners such as HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson & Samsung to create Androidland, Telstra is planning to keep the 154 square metre store open for the next 6 months and beyond, depending on customer benefit.

Customers are welcome to come play Angry Birds on a big screen TV and more importantly go hands-on with the devices they could potentially be purchasing and get in-store help Telstra representatives. What do you guys think? Pretty Awesome right?

Twitter Gets Google And Facebook Connect

Screen Shot 2011-12-03 at 1.12.07 AMCorrect me if I'm wrong here but you weren't always immediately prompted and guided through to finding your Gmail contacts on Twitter upon login, just like you weren't always able to sync your tweets to Facebook. Some switch just got turned on after midnight on Friday I swear because, yeah now this stuff is possible. It's crazy. Log into your Twitter account and go to Settings and it's there, I promise. Unless I'm hallucinating or part of some strange private beta.

The Kindle Fire Is On Fire; Amazon Expected To Ship 3.9 Million This Quarter

Tablet pie chartThe Kindle Fire looks like a bona fide hit right out of the gate. New estimates from IHS iSuppli have Amazon shipping 3.9 million Kindle Fires this quarter, which would make it the No. 2 tablet after the iPad 2 (with an estimated 18.6 million shipments). The Kindle Fire will become the No. 1 Android tablet by a wide margin (the Samsung Galaxy Tab is the next biggest, with an estimated 1.4 million shipments). To put this 3.9 million number in context, just remember that the very first quarter Apple sold the iPad back in the September quarter of 2010, it sold 3.3 million. So the Kindle Fire sold more in its first quarter than the iPad did in its first quarter on the market. Of course, Apple sold 7.3 million iPads the second quarter it was on the market, which was the 2010 holiday quarter.

UK networks insist they don't use Carrier IQ software

Android Central

There's been plenty of coverage surrounding Carrier IQ in recent days, so it was only a matter of time before we'd be hearing whisperings over on this side of the Atlantic. However, some of the UK networks have come out and insisted that they absolutely do not employ the Carrier IQ software.

Speaking to The Guardian, Vodafone, Orange and O2 all say they do not install the software on any of their devices in the UK, and to their knowledge it isn't shipped on any of the phones that they sell.

Vodafone Portugal however are allegedly going to start using the software, according to Carrier IQ themselves. But in the UK at least, there's no apparent reason to be concerned.

FTC asked to open an investigation into Carrier IQ

Carrier IQ
It was only a matter of time, we suppose, before this whole Carrier IQ thing started drawing the attention of lawmakers. The saga has quickly spiraled out of control, with carriers being forced to declare which side they're on and Senator Stuart Smalley Al Franken demanding the company provide details about what data it collects and how it's used. Well, Massachusetts congressman Edward Markey has even less patience than his esteemed colleague and has already asked the FTC to open an investigation into Carrier IQ. Markey wants the Federal Trade Commission to look into whether or not the rootkit and its creators have violated the privacy of millions of cellphone users and federal wiretap laws -- an accusation the company vehemently denies. We hope you're not tired of this epic tale yet, 'cause we're just getting started.

TripAdvisor app for Windows Phone 7 now available

tripadvisor windows phone 7TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related -- from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination.

Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that's a neat feature, it's also a bit of a downer -- because, really, it's about the only feature TripAdvisor for WP7 brings to the table that its mobile Web app doesn't already offer (its browser-based geolocation doesn't work with WP7 at the moment).

While it's nice to see Windows Phone 7 users getting some big-name apps, it'd be even nicer if we saw some packing a bit more swagger.

Still, TripAdvisor for WP7 might just be worth installing on your device if you're frequently on the go -- at least until a better browser arrives with the Mango update.

Soggy Doggy Super Shammy Review

Keep the towels in the linen closet. Your answer to fast drying your wet dog is finally here. I’m not crazy about most do-it-yourself dog grooming products because most of them are long on promises and short on delivery. And they’re expensive.  For that kind of money, I can just take my pooch over to [...]
